Harmattan Sunset
Thinking of friends in Mali. I took this shot from the balcony of an apartment in the ACI-2000 neighborhood of Bamako as the harmattan was blowing huge dust clouds through town. Mali, puissiez-vous trouver la paix.
Fresh
They’re still a little small this time of year, but I know they’re fresh from the tree; I picked them myself while visiting family in South Carolina. Peach ice-cream last night, peach preserves in the making now.
Before & After
Two dear friends gave us a new, beautiful roaster to help celebrate our move to Blacksburg and P’s new job. We christened the dish last night – gluten free lasagna!
pocket tool
Archival training includes preservation, cataloging, boxing, sorting, discarding, digitizing…. right. Anybody mention rewiring a wall in 220v without being able to turn off the juice? Bienvenue à Afrique de l’Ouest.
Very Hungry Caterpillar
A quick working trip to Mali gave me an opportunity to spread some unused toys around for fun (for the receiver and the giver). This little girl’s father is a security guard at the building where I stay in Bamako, and I know there’s not much money left over for toys. Note her new VHC is already tied to her back after the style in which women carry babies. Made me smile.
Angelina’s
It’s been years – years – since I was in Angelina’s. Before the visit today, the last time I had chocolate at Angelina’s I paid my bill in Francs. I’m hoping it won’t be so long the next time….
Tiki
In 1999, I found a place out in Williamston that served really great food. I had this steak, served on a bed of fried onions, that was just fantastic. At the time, I told my buddies if the golf course was worth a hoot I’d buy a membership and play all summer.
I’ve had a membership every year since.
