the line
I occasionally worked this “line” as a high school and college student down in my family’s seed processing shed. Growing up, we just called it the line – seed drops from above in 50lb increments. You bag it, sample, sew, and then stack the seed onto pallets for shipping.

I’m amazed at what sometimes comes in the door of our digital lab. Acetate audio tape from about 1958. It’s of course the only known recording… we have 7 reels. We’ve done this before – as long as we’re careful, make sure our machinery is working properly, everything usually turns out well. Can’t wait to hear what’s on the tape!

Sometimes I don’t notice everything in the frame – there’s not always time. Mom/Aunt/friend… I don’t know, but she was keeping an eye on me. See her in the background?
This was taken a few years ago in a market just outside of Nkawkaw – I think the same day as the one below – before I began shooting digital SLR all the time. For the camera geeks: this was ’04, so it’s with the old emulsion Velvia 50. If you’ve ever shot Velvia, you’ll know this jpg doesn’t do the original slide justice for depth or color.

hang on
From a few years back. I knew when I climbed into this truck, I was in for a rough ride. I’d never seen a dash that included an altimeter or a gauge to show the tilt of the vehicle. And there was this huge grab-handle on the dash as well. “Do you ever use the tilt gauge?” I asked, hoping the driver would say no….

Posting two tonight – I’ve been looking at this sailboat just off of Zimmer road all summer as I drive home from my golf course. I’ve been trying to figure out how to do something with a shot here… could only half see the shot I wanted and couldn’t figure out how to frame it.
Finally – tonight – I stopped the car and just started shooting. Something will come out, for good or bad. Take the shots and see what the light finds.
The sun was setting tonight as I shot the first one:

I got the shot above, but then thought I should walk around to the stern to get the sun’s last light across this old beat-up boat, hoping to see something better.

mustang
A much better day for shooting than the last time I took this shot, the Mustang caught my eye driving home from golf tonight. Such a beautiful machine, and such dedication to building this place of memory. As I mentioned before, he built this little piece out of time to satisfy his own whims.

I’ve been going back over old photos, cataloging and adding metadata to my own stuff. Found this from a trip to Senegal:

Another from the Ann Arbor art fair. This sculpture caught my eye and I tried to get a reflection of the artist from it. He’s the guy in the chair.
