Sometimes I don’t notice everything in the frame – there’s not always time. Mom/Aunt/friend… I don’t know, but she was keeping an eye on me. See her in the background?

This was taken a few years ago in a market just outside of Nkawkaw – I think the same day as the one below – before I began shooting digital SLR all the time. For the camera geeks: this was ’04, so it’s with the old emulsion Velvia 50. If you’ve ever shot Velvia, you’ll know this jpg doesn’t do the original slide justice for depth or color.

I’ve been going back over old photos, cataloging and adding metadata to my own stuff. Found this from a trip to Senegal:

One from the past today.

from the cape

I thought these fellas were very cute until the larger one sauntered over and began bellowing at me. The waiter from the jazz cafĂ© explained to me that if I shared my beer with the old boy, he’d be quiet. I wasn’t having a beer; I was having a diet pepsi. “I can fix that,” explained the waiter.

I think the seals and wait staff are in league together….

Banyon

Banyon tree in Brisbane, Australia. I was there for a conference back in October. To give some perspective, the branch in the foreground was about shoulder height. Walking through this tree was like being in a maze.

Lion’s Head

Will be here again soon – can’t wait. A week or so in Johannesburg, a few days down at the Cape.

Roadside

Am heading out traveling again Friday – so much to get done between now and then!Today’s pic – a fantastic snack-stop and vegetable market somewhere close to Kumasi. I washed some of the dust off, had a great grilled plantain, and rested a bit.

dusk

Stumbled into this tiny neighborhood shrine while looking for a shortcut.

night lights

It’s raining and cold here in Chicago, so one from the past. This urban river was reflecting the lights of cars, bikes, and the nearby crosswalk. I tried several shots until I just settled on leaving the shutter open until it felt right. Got this.

shadows from home

Just off 321 in Robertville, SC, I was doing family history with my grandmother when I took this shot a few years ago.
