In Moshi, Tanzania for two weeks teaching and collaborating at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College. The photo below was taken from campus, just outside my door.
“There, ahead, all he could see, as wide as all the world, great, high, and unbelievably white in the sun, was the square top of Kilimanjaro. And then he knew that there was where he was going” – Ernest Hemingway: The Snows Of Kilimanjaro
Mom’s back from visiting brother Dave and his family in Sydney, so a picture from there seems appropriate. I took this in Dec’07, right after my niece was born.
Thinking of friends in Mali. I took this shot from the balcony of an apartment in the ACI-2000 neighborhood of Bamako as the harmattan was blowing huge dust clouds through town. Mali, puissiez-vous trouver la paix.
They’re still a little small this time of year, but I know they’re fresh from the tree; I picked them myself while visiting family in South Carolina. Peach ice-cream last night, peach preserves in the making now.
A quick working trip to Mali gave me an opportunity to spread some unused toys around for fun (for the receiver and the giver). This little girl’s father is a security guard at the building where I stay in Bamako, and I know there’s not much money left over for toys. Note her new VHC is already tied to her back after the style in which women carry babies. Made me smile.
