market boys

The market was closing for the day – meetings ran long, couldn’t find film… But I still got a few shots in.

stairway shadows

The sun on the wall caught my eye as I walked downstairs from a meeting.

parade

In town to work with the District Six Museum, other participants, and to conduct some interviews during a conference a few years back…An impressive neighborhood band led a parade after the banner painting and storytelling one evening. As the band warming up pretty much put an end to our video interviews, we had a great time talking to the band, listening… fun evening.

citrus

Looking over the pictures I’ve posted recently – they reek of dark winter. Tis the season, but the blog at least should have more color. This one took some digging into the old files but I had him in my mind to post. David sells citrus fruit at a market in Cape Town, where I’ve been buying fresh fruit from him for years. He has one of the more interesting faces I’ve seen. The charms on the post behind him? They keep dark spirits from decaying the fruit – so you now it’s good. Turns out I like my fruit without decaying darkness.

seeking

Wouldn’t mind being here right now. I remember it was cooler, but not cold. Warm sun occasionally trickled through.

antilogy

Got home from freezing my tail off taking pictures of the moon last night – warmed up – and climbed under blankets to read. Noticed the night shadows, long streaks on the snow…. Look closely and you’ll see the snow sparkling in the moon.

darker

My first attempt at photographing a lunar eclipse. I took about 30 pics… some blurry, some great, some not so much. Having Dennis’ 75-300 lens really made it possible as the 55mm just wasn’t enough to make a decent shot. This shot is from about midway into full eclipse.

so cold…

There was a Lunar eclipse tonight. So of course I went and took pictures… How could I not?

I could have decided to stay warm!

It’s zero degrees Kelvin here. The air has frozen. Two pairs of socks, insulated boots, long-johns, fleece-lined jeans, t-shirt, insulated shirt, fleece vest, coat, scarf… I was freezing through 52,000 layers of clothes (or so it felt like while shooting pics). I think I got some good pictures – will post after I’ve had some hot tea and stopped shivering.

rugby

This shot makes me think of all the rugby players and fans in town for the big cup. Had a blast meeting some on the train. Seriously made my ribs sore just thinking about rugby again…
