An off-topic post for today. Instead of a still picture, I’m offering up a video. An old video.
The background story:
I worked with the Scouts in Columbia years ago with a person who turned out to be my old elementary school’s media director. We were good friends, camping and backpacking together for years. I moved away, years pass….
Then, back in 2004, the librarian at my old elementary school found a VHS taped marked “Space Shuttle: 1981” in storage. She brought it to my friend the media director, they popped it in and my friend immediately recognized the fifth grade version of me on the tape. With no warning or fanfare, they mailed me the tape. I popped it in and had the laugh of my life.
Thanks to Tor Steinke, Elizabeth (Zsoki) Warner, and several others, we have a list of the cast members.

One more from Camp Tapico. Our last night in camp, after the closing campfire burned down, Ethan and I were walking back to camp when he pointed at the sky and said “Picture. I’ll wait.” I had to laugh. But he was right!

Spent all of last week at Camp Tapico, BSA. Will be posting more pictures soon, but for now need shower, clean clothes, shower, food, shower…. and a real bed. And a shower. Seriously.
Goodbye Tapico. See you next year.

I’m in the deep woods for a week – no new posts until next Saturday at least. The camera is taggin’ along for the ride, so I hope to have many new pics when I return.
A week without internet…I can do this. I can… I think.
Tree trouble – but I’m taking advantage of this. Mac has a chipper he’s bringing to help with the downed limb, so I asked if it’d be ok to bring down a few more limbs (the pruning saw way rather than thunderstorms) for the chipper. No problem.
This is just one load of the many I brought down today and tied to the lawn tractor to haul out front for the chipper. My back hurts from the work; my arms ache from the saw, but it’s done.

Daggum nature. Laughing… oh, the beast of it all. So we had a storm….
About a week ago, we had a huge thunderstorm move through. I came home to find a rather large (about 2ft at the base) limb down in my yard from my favorite maple tree. When I looked, it wasn’t really down but rather still half-attached – on the ground, but still attached to the tree. Neighbor Ron said “Look, it’s on the power lines. Call the power company and let them deal with it.” They did – by trimming it away from the lines and saying “the rest is your problem, buddy.” They were even kind enough to leave the trimmings in the yard and on the deck. Sigh.
Enter the golfing buddies. Two are coming over this weekend with chainsaws and a chipper. Until then, I can’t cut the back nor – more importantly! – use my chipping area for golf practice. Now that is a serious problem.
