Gassed

I live a bit out from town, just at the last stop on the bus route. At the end of my street it’s cornfields and horse farms; I like that. Down from me, between here and the next town to the east, there’s a guy who’s decided to rebuild a 1950s gas station. Set off the road a bit, back in the trees, the whole thing is easy to miss. He has the automobiles to match (in the garage for the winter), gas pumps, signs, and the entire gas station. He even has an Airstream trailer from 1958. I’ve stopped a few times to talk to him – he loves the collection, not the value. I like people who add a little unexplained wonder.

Here, in tonight’s snowstorm, is his station.
